Traffic Law Violations
According to Daily Pakistan Punjab Police carried out a strict 24 hour crackdown against violations of traffic laws under the new Punjab Traffic Ordinance 2025, fining over 40,000 drivers for different violations, impounding more than 630 public transport vehicles for overloading and seizing over 6,700 vehicles. The crackdown was launched on the instructions of Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz, who recently issued a 30 day deadline to improve traffic conditions in all major cities, including Lahore. She warned that failure on the part of the traffic police would force the government to opt for another department to manage the traffic. This campaign would hopefully reduce road accidents, over speeding, signal violations, and smoke emitting vehicles, which are further deteriorating environmental conditions. As a constructive campaign for improving the safety of roads, its exact implications will have to be taken into account for daily commuters and public transport in the days to come.
