Fetty Wap Released from Prison Early After Serving 3 Years in Drug Trafficking Case
Grammy nominated rapper Fetty Wap, born Willie Junior Maxwell II, and best known for his 2014 singles “Trap Queen” among others, was granted an early release from federal prison on January 8, 2026, after spending just over three years of his initial six year sentence given in a US District Court to conspiracy to distribute controlled substances, referring to his case involving drug trafficking across New York and New Jersey.
The New Jersey native, arrested in October 2021, and sentenced in May of this year had been serving his time at a minimum-security federal prison camp in Sandstone, Minnesota, before being transferred to home confinement in Philadelphia as an early release. Terms of Fetty Wap’s supervised release include strict conditions requiring the “My Way” singer to submit to regular drug testing, file financial disclosure reports with probation authorities, and obtain approval before opening any new bank accounts or ingesting intoxicants, among other restrictions. He remains under federal oversight until November 8, 2026.
In his very first public address after his return home, the rapper expressed his gratitude to his loved ones, friends, and fans, while stating that he is looking forward to dedicating his time towards doing some good in society, aiming to offer assistance to at-risk youth in the domains of education, technology, and vision related services through his own trust, which will mark his comeback.
The release of Fetty Wap from jail comes against the backdrop of federal policies that can reduce the jail term for inmates for good behavior and rehabilitation, and is an important milestone for the artist whose rise to fame in the 2010s he is now seeking to revive through his newly sorted life.
